Gas Natural Fenosa has agreed to the purchase of 100% of the renewable energy company Gecalsa for 260 million euros

Today, GAS NATURAL FENOSA reached an agreement to purchase 100% of the renewable energy firm Gecalsa, valued at 260 million euros. Gecalsa operates 10 wind farms and a photovoltaic plant in Spain which have a collective net installed capacity of 201.3 MW (237.5 gross MW). The purchase is subject to the acquisition of the necessary authorisations and is expected to be finalised in the fourth quarter of 2015.
GGecalsa is one of the main independent wind energy producers in Spain and operates in Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castile and León and Andalusia.
Gecalsa also has a portfolio of wind projects under development that gather a net attributable capacity of more than 400 MW.
Strengthening the wind energy portfolio
The acquisition of Gecalsa will reinforce Gas Natural Fenosa Renovables’ presence in wind generation activity. GAS NATURAL FENOSA’s subsidiary currently has an operational installed capacity of 920 MW in Spain, of which 752 MW are accounted for by wind farms; 111 MW, by mini-hydraulics; and 57 MW, by cogeneration.
On the other hand, GAS NATURAL FENOSA has operated the Bii Hioxo wind farm in the Mexican state of Oaxaca since October 2014, which has an installed capacity of 234 MW, through the society Global Power Generation (GPG) – a company that brings together its electricity generation assets and businesses outside Europe.
