GAS NATURAL FENOSA will be carrying out acoustic tests this coming Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 April, on the sirens installed at the Villagudín and San Cosmade dams. The sirens will sound between 9 am and 6 pm in the vicinity of the dams, in the municipalities of Cerceda, Ordes and Tordoia (La Coruña). Because it is only a test, the town will not have to take any special actions when they hear the sirens and may continue on with their normal activities.
The energy company is working together with the Galician Regional Government’s General Directorate for Emergencies and Augas de Galicia to implement Emergency Plans at the dams that it manages in the provinces of a Coruña, Ourense and Pontevedra, under the provisions established in the Civil Protection Plan against Flood Hazards.
The goal of these Emergency Plans is to increase the safety guarantees already in place at the dams. The plans touch on several aspects and establish the different procedures to be carried out in the event of incidents occurring in the normal operations of the facilities. The measures established by the Emergency Plan include the installation of a network of sirens in the vicinity of the dams, to alert the population should it be necessary.
Similar initiatives are under way out throughout Spain and GAS NATURAL FENOSA has already implemented eight fully operational Dam Emergency Plans.
