Naturgy invested 441 million euros in 2024 to reinforce and digitalise its electricity networks in Spain

  • These investments represent an increase of 34% over the average of the last five years.
  • The actions carried out by UFD, the group’s electricity distributor, are aimed at strengthening its infrastructure to improve the quality of service offered to its 3.8 million customers.

UFD, the Naturgy group electricity distributor, invested 441 million euros in 2024 in the digitalisation and improvement of its more than 116,000 kilometres of network in Spain, which represents an increase of 34% compared to the average investment of the last five years. Since 2020, UFD investments have exceeded 1.647 billion euros, with a focus on improving quality of service to its 3.8 million customers.

These investments have focused on innovation and the application of new technologies to advance in remote metering and remote supply point management, remote control and network sensorisation, as well as strengthening infrastructures, with the aim of integrating the increase in renewable generation.

Efforts made by the company in sensorisation and digitalisation of its infrastructures enabled it to improve the quality of service measured by installed power equivalent interruption time (IPEIT). This indicator is 17% better than five years ago, to an average interruption time of 32.6 minutes in 2024.

“These high volumes of investment in digitalisation and reinforcement of our infrastructures allow us to continue transforming and strengthening our network to connect the new players in the energy transition and improve the quality of supply for all our customers,” says Mónica Puente, Director of Electricity Networks Spain at Naturgy.

It currently serves 3.8 million supply points with a network of 116,000 kilometres of high, medium and low voltage lines, maintaining and operating the networks with a commitment to ensuring service under conditions of efficiency, safety and quality.

During 2025, the company will maintain a high rate of investment, prioritising innovation and the digitalisation of distribution networks as a fundamental part of the energy transition towards a decarbonised model. It will also continue to evolve its Digital Service Platform (www.ufd.es) as a space where users can complete all their formalities on any device, anytime and anywhere, as the primary point of contract amongst the different agents in the electricity system.
