Naturgy starts construction work on three photovoltaic plants in Andújar (Jaén) with the capacity to supply 55,800 homes

  • Andújar I, Andújar II and Andújar III involve an investment of more than 60 million euros and will generate more than 700 direct and indirect jobs during the construction and operation phases.
  • The three plants will produce 180 GWh of renewable energy per year, preventing 90,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
  • In addition to these plants, Naturgy has several other projects in Andalusia in an advanced stage of development with a total capacity of 200 MW, as well as a renewable gas plant to be located in Utrera (Seville).

Naturgy has started construction work on three new photovoltaic plants in the municipality of Andújar (Jaén) that will generate a peak power of 100 MW and produce 180 GWh of renewable energy per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 55,800 homes. Furthermore, Andújar I, Andújar II and Andújar III will prevent 90,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Naturgy will invest more than 60 million euros in these three new plants, which will generate more than 700 direct and indirect jobs during the construction and operation phases. In total, the three plants house more than 225,000 modules and commissioning is scheduled for the second half of 2025.

These facilities join the extensive renewable portfolio that Naturgy is developing in Andalusia. The company currently operates a capacity of 255 MW, equivalent to the consumption of 169,000 homes, distributed between five wind farms and two photovoltaic plants, which prevent 276,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. In addition, Naturgy is finalising construction work on a new photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 50 MW in Villanueva del Rey, province of Seville, which will start operating soon.

The company also has a further eight photovoltaic projects in Andalusia, province of Seville, that are in an advanced stage of development and will increase the company’s installed capacity by another 200 MW.

Naturgy’s commitment to renewable energy in Andalusia also extends to the gas business. The company plans to build a biomethane plant in the province of Seville, which would supply biomethane to more than 10,500 homes in Andalusia. Commissioning of the facility is expected to begin next year.

Commitment to Energy Transition

Naturgy is working to boost its role in the energy transition and decarbonisation. The company currently has more than 6.6 GW of capacity in operation all around the world.  This figure will continue to grow thanks to the upcoming commissioning of several projects currently under construction in Spain, the United States and Australia, totalling an additional 2.2 GW.

Investments in renewable energies over the last few years confirm the company’s strategic shift towards a more sustainable energy mix and its commitment to the energy transition. All this without ignoring the fundamental objectives of value creation and growth for each of its businesses, or the ESG goals.
