Naturgy has successfully completed the takeover bid for its own shares launched last May. The acceptance period for the takeover bid ended on Friday 13 June and the result was very favourable in terms of achieving the company's free float and liquidity targets on the stock exchange. Once the offer is completed, the company will apply all the temporal and operational flexibility it deems necessary to bring the shares back to the market and once again increase the free float.
Naturgy has started up its second photovoltaic plant in the Canary Islands and the first in Fuerteventura, in the town of Puerto del Rosario, with a capacity of 11.5 MW. The new facility will produce 21.65 GWh/year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 6,600 homes, helping to reduce annual CO2 emissions by more than 15,600 tonnes and accelerating the energy transition in the Canary Islands.
Naturgy improved its EBITDA in 2023 to 5,475 million euros (+11%) and recorded a net profit of 1.986 billion (+20%), in a year marked by falling energy prices and a volatile scenario. The networks business obtained an EBITDA of 2,638 million (+7%) and the deregulated businesses, 2.949 billion (+15%).
The renewable gas distribution capacity of the network operated by Nedgia, the Naturgy group’s gas distributor, increased fivefold in 2023. The company already operates six injection modules located in Catalonia, Castile and León and Galicia, which inject 174 GWh of biomethane per year into its infrastructure, equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 70,000 homes, thereby preventing more than 32,000 tonnes of atmospheric CO2 emissions per year.
The European Commission has selected the renewable hydrogen production plant promoted by Naturgy and Enagás Renovable in La Robla (León, Spain) to receive 42 million euros from its Innovation Fund, a programme to support innovative technologies, processes and products that contribute to the European Union's decarbonisation commitments. This financial backing boosts the development of the project and validates its maturity by giving it a significant competitive advantage.
UFD, the Naturgy Group’s electricity distributor, now has more than 38,000 self-supply installations in its electricity network after having doubled the number of connections in 2023. These operative self-supply installations have a total capacity of 950 MW, a figure that represents an important milestone for the company in its commitment to the energy transition.
Naturgy has been recognised as one of Spain’s Top Employers for the tenth year in a row. The company obtained this certification from Top Employers Institute following an exhaustive audit of more than 300 practices in its People area. By revalidating this seal, Naturgy continues to be part of the group of leading companies in Spain that are known for their professional development models and strategy.
Naturgy will supply Inditex with all the renewable gas produced at the Bens WWTP facilities in A Coruña. In all, there will be 5.1 GWh of biomethane, a gas with qualities equivalent to those of natural gas, obtained from the treatment of 130,000 m3 of wastewater from homes and industries in the metropolitan area of this Galician city.
Naturgy continues its US growth as it begins construction on the Grimes project, its second major photovoltaic facility in the country. This new renewable power plant, located in the state of Texas, will include 210 MW of power that will be able to generate enough zero-emissions electricity to supply approximately 140,000 households.
This week, Naturgy has commissioned the Merengue II wind farm, the company’s second in Extremadura, and the Puerta del Jerte photovoltaic plant, the second of its kind in this autonomous region. Both installations allow the energy company to add 80 MW to those already in operation and reach 142 MW of renewable energy in the region.
Naturgy has launched Naturzero, a new comprehensive service designed to help its customers reduce their emissions and save on their energy bills through a wide range of efficient solutions that seek to maximise the benefits of the transition to a low-carbon economy. Calculate, Compensate and Reduce are the three axes around which this new Naturgy service revolves. Through Naturzero Calcula, the energy group will help companies calculate their carbon footprint and offer them a personalised decarbonisation strategy in line with the guidelines set by environmental regulations.
